Cooling the Greenhouse: Halving Carbon Emissions by 2050

Tuesday 9 April, 6.30pm - 8pm Venue 17: Reid Concert Hall, Bristo Square, Edinburgh

How can we reduce greenhouse gas emissions enough to matter? If the goal to slow climate change is ten times our Kyoto target, how do we do it? Do we need more nuclear power, or should we all just switch off our central heating?

Sir John Houghton, scientific co-chair of the Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change, and
Kevin Dunion, Chief Executive of Friends of the Earth Scotland,
debate the implications both for policy and for our personal lives.
Chair: Dr Donald Bruce, Society, Religion and Technology Project, Church of Scotland

Ticket prices (Full price/Concession): £6.00 / £4.00
for Bookings and Further Information

Organised by the Society, Religion & Technology Project of the Church of Scotland and Friends of the Earth Scotland

Making Food Better: Is Organic the Best Answer?

Monday 16 April, 6 pm - 7 pm
Venue 6: Royal Museum, Chambers Street, Edinburgh

Has too much technology made us miss Nature's best in food production, or are we fools to ignore what modern science can do? If we want 'sustainable' agriculture, what are the options? Is it a simple choice: organic instead of industrial methods? Does GM have any place in Scotland's agriculture? Could we go 30% organic? And what is viable in a global market? Join three of Scotland's leading experts for a debate on the science and the practicalities behind the future of Scottish food production.

Professor David Atkinson, Head of Research, Scottish Agricultural College
Dr Ulrich Loening, former Director of the Centre for Human Ecology Edinburgh
Professor John Hillman, Director of the Scottish Crop Research Institute
Chair: Dr Donald Bruce, Society, Religion and Technology Project, Church of Scotland

Ticket prices (Full price/Concession): £6.00 / £4.00
for Bookings and Further Information
