Iain G. Mitchell QC is a member of both the Scottish and English bars. He is Chairman of the Working Party on Surveillance of the CCBE (the European Federation of Bars and Law Societies) in Brussels and also represents the United Kingdom on the IT committee of the CCBE. He is Chairman of the Scottish Society for Computers and Law and a member of the IT panel of the Bar Council of England and Wales. He is recommended in the Legal 500 for IT and IP Law and for Commercial Loitigation and is recommended in Chambers Directory for IT Law, IP Law and Public Procurement Law,
He is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists and serves on the Company's Ethical and Spritual Development Panel. He is a reader in the Church of Scotland and is a member of the Church and Society Council.
He is Joint Editor of the International Free and Open Source Software Law Review. His publications include contributions to Electronic Evidence (Butterworths) and Free and Open Source Software - Law Policy and Practice (Oxford University Press). He lectures particularly in the fields of Surveillance issues, e-commerce, Internet regulation and financial regulation, both in the United Kingdom and abroad. He is on the Board of Honorary Lecturers of the Institut für Informations - Telekommunikations - und Medienrecht at the University of Münster, Westphalia.
