Looking at the ethics of technology for a New Millennium

Xenotransplantation Pages

Transplanting GM Animal Organs into Humans

General Paper on Ethical Issues in Xenotransplantation

The SRT Project first examined the complex ethical issues of genetically modifying animal organs for use in human transplantation - xenotransplantation - in 1994, early in our 5 year study "Engineering Genesis" on the ethics of genetic modification in animals, plants and micro-organism. Our expert working group prepared a submission Ethical Issues in Xenotransplantation to the Nuffield Council on Bioethics study into the subject. We also sent this submission the following year, with further additions, to the UK Department of Health's consultation.

Comments on the Nuffield Xenotransplanation Report

The SRT Director's critique of the Nuffield Council on Bioethics 1995 report "Animal-to-Human Transplants - the Ethics of Xenotransplanation".

GM Animals, Humans and the Future of Genetics

This SRT Report was passed by the May 2001 Church of Scotland General Assembly. It examines a range of technologies at the interfact between animal research and human medicine, including cloning, xenotransplantation, GM animals as models of human disease.
